Muscle Building Foods – How to Sear Steak Properly

So you want to make a good steak. Good. That’s respectable and steak is a good source of protein. You don’t want to burn the hell out of your steak and you don’t want to still have it bleeding all over your plate either.

What you need:

  • A raw steak. About an inch thick.
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • That’s it. Don’t overthink it

What you do:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  2. Put a couple tablespoons of oil in a frying pan. Turn up to medium. Wait a bit for the frying pan to head up.
  3. While the frying pan is heating up, soak up some of the excess meat juices from the steak with a paper towel. After it’s relatively dryer, rub some coarse grain salt over each side. Then rub some pepper on each side.
  4. After the steak is all salted and peppered, throw it in the frying pan. Keep it there for about 3 minutes on each side or until you see it turn the nice crispy brown you want. With tongs, you can also sear the edges of the steak as well if you’d like. It really doesn’t matter.
  5. After the outside is as brown and crispy as you want, put the steak onto an oven-safe sheet or pan (with wax paper or something to that effect) and leave it in the oven for about 10 minutes.
  6. 10 minutes later DING the steak is done. Take it out. Turn the oven off. Let the steak sit there for a bit till it cools off.
  7. Garnish with vegetables of your choice.

That’s it. Really. That’s how you sear steak. Don’t overthink it. It’s not that complicated. Steak is jam packed full of protein. It’s great for muscle building.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Avoid cooking with butter. Butter is high in fat and calories. It’s crap. Tasty crap, but crap nonetheless.
  • A seared steak can last up to 4 days in the fridge in a container. Great for meal prep.
  • Experiment with other seasonings to your liking. You’ll be cooking a LOT if you’re being fit and healthy. It’s okay to mess up.
